Sung-ill Chung
Korean Film Critic/Director
Born in Seoul, Korea. A well-known film critic, between 1989 and 1999 was editor in chief of two main monthly film journals ROAD SHOW and KINO. He co-ordinated the master class workshop with HOU HSIAO HSIEN at Pusan Intl. Film Festival in 2005 and JIA ZHANKE at Korean Film Academy of Film Arts twice in 2000 and 2007.
Among his books are IM KWON-TAEK BY IM KWON-TAEK (2003), KIM KI-DUCK:SAVAGE OR SCAPEGOAT (This book is also translated in Chinese)(2003), KOREAN CINEMA:FROM ORIGINS TO RENAISSANCE (This book is also translated in Chinese)(2006),TOMORROW THE WORLD WILL BE A CINEMA (2010) and PASSIONATE AND DESPERATE: A STUDY ON 21ST CENTURY KOREAN FILMS(2010).
He made his debut film CAFE NOIR in 2009 and the film was selected in Venice Film Festival Critic’s week (2009), Rotterdam Film festival (2010), and more than 14 other International Film Festivals.
He is also a program director in Cinema Digital Seoul Film Festival.
